Fished a club tourney out of Rainbow Landing (77 Bridge) ramp from 3:30 am until noon with Chris "Nomad". We started off the day with 3 solid fish before daylight on blades and then made a run south where I located some fish a couple of weeks ago to see if they had hung around. They did... After a little searching we found exactly where they were holding and were culling by 7:15am. Ended up culling a couple of times and catching numerous fish off of that hole but struggled to make the larger fish bite after a band of rain moved through so we headed back north to try another place where I have been catching some good spotted bass out of some deeper water. We missed a couple of bites there and spent the last hour just covering water and pitching around a few docks on the main channel where we both caught a few more fish but no help. We ended up with around 12 pounds which was good enough for 3rd place. Took 14 to win it and second place was only an ounce or two ahead of us.
The fish are still scattered but have started pushing towards the grass and several guys reported catching their fish shallow but we stayed in 8-10' of water most of the day closer to deeper water to catch ours. Water temps have fallen to 83 degrees and there was a pretty good stain after recent rains.
The action is picking up and when that water temp gets below 80, Neely will be on fire. I won't be back up there until September 8th when I am taking a guy from Kentucky out to help him prepare for the FOM Regional but I'm already looking forward to it. Might have to squeeze in a few fun trips in the meantime.
